The Westchase country Club is one of the most popular miniature golf courses in Florida. There
is a full 14,500-square foot putting green, two parallel short courses and a half-finished professional
short course. The Westchase Country Club is owned and operated by Bob Anderson, who has been a
professional miniature golf player for close to forty years. He started the project in early 1996 with a
single eighteen-hole miniature golf course. A few years later he had added the second course, the
Par 3, to accommodate more players.
The Westchase Country Club is located in Tampa, Florida. This is a short drive from the beach. Bob Anderson
actually put the putting green together using plans he
had gotten while working on a new home. Now he has expanded the site to include both a putting
green and a pro shop for his customers. Because of the sand on the putting greens, it can be hard to
get the ball into the holes on many golf greens.
For this reason, he installed a removable flagstick marker onto the green ahead of each hole. If you
don't have a removable flagstick, he has a "pen" used by his employees to mark the putt so that it is
easier to identify the exact spot where it should go. Plus, the putting green is on a golf hole, not a
flagstick, so you can't always depend on the markers used by your competitors.
The two parallel fairways at the Westchase Golf Club will allow players to practice their strokes on either
side of the course. The course is two grasses deep with ten bunkers between them. To make the
greens more challenging, Bob Anderson has installed sand traps throughout the greens. These traps
will slow you down when you hit the balls. Plus, he has also installed a water tower and filled it with
water for the hazards. This will help to make the putting and chipping greens harder.
A crowning green is a unique type of putting green because the flagstick marker will be at ground
level. Unlike most greens, the flagstick will be touching the ground, not on top of it. Plus, the flags
are not square. They will be positioned in a circular pattern around the base of the flagstick. Because
of these unique characteristics, Bob Anderson has found that putting is faster and the slope of the
grass is more even when using crowning greens.
He has also designed a special golf cart for playing his putting green. His custom cart has a flat bed,
ladder back and seat. On the front of the seat, he has placed a banner that shows the layout of the
hole and the direction that you should be going. With all of these unique features, Bob Anderson
knows that he has created a hole that will give any golfer an exciting, new experience when they tee
it off.
