The first step in the installation process is to survey the worksite. This includes clearing away debris, creating an unobstructed path and defining edges. If necessary, the installers will excavate the site before laying the turf. Then, they will fill in the excavated area with class-2 road base. To compact the base, they will use a vibratory plate compactor. This will help to ensure that there is at least 3/4 inch of space between the hardscape edge and the turf surface.
A professional installation will also eliminate any visible defects. For instance, seams should be hidden, and the turf should not have two colors. If the installation area is vulnerable to gophers, the installers may use a metal mesh barrier to discourage the creatures. They may also use coatings that will protect the turf from ultraviolet light and urine.

There are a number of steps in the installation process, such as checking the quality of the deck, cleaning the surface, and laying the synthetic grass.
