Artificial turf installation is a process that involves careful planning and preparation. You should begin by gauging the area’s pH level and deciding on the type of turf to use. Once you have these measurements, you’ll need to prepare the base. To do this, you will need to excavate the top three or four inches of soil from your yard. This will create a flat surface for the artificial grass. Then, you will need to compact the soil. Using a vibratory plate is a good way to do this.
Before laying the turf, you will need to apply a weed barrier. These are durable cloth-like fabrics that prevent weeds from growing in your lawn. They can be installed under or on top of the base material. However, be sure to leave a six to twelve-inch gap between the weed barrier and the turf to allow air to circulate. If you choose to install a weed barrier, make sure it has a layer of infill that goes to the edge of the seam.
Next, you will need to make sure that you are able to cut your turf. Whether you’re using a tool or hand, you should be able to make the proper cuts. For small areas, you can use a sod cutter, which will help you make cuts that will be easier to handle. When you are making cuts around obstacles, such as planter beds or trees, be careful to leave at least three inches of space in between the base and the obstacle.
Once you have trimmed the edges, you’ll need to use seaming glue to join the pieces together. This is one of the most reliable methods for completing your turf installation. Seaming glue works by forming an “S” pattern on the turf. After applying the glue, you’ll need to let it set. Glue can be applied with a foam pad or masking tape. Be sure to use at least two layers of the glue to ensure that the seams are firm.
Once you have finished the base material, you’ll need to apply the infill. You’ll need to make sure that the infill is heavy enough to support the blades. Infill is also known as rubber pellets in sporting applications. This infill material will weigh down the synthetic grass, which will keep it in place.
To install the infill, you’ll need to use a drop spreader. Drop spreaders are a great way to compact the infill material evenly, but they are best used slowly. Don’t overlap rows of turf when spreading. Also, it’s a good idea to remove a few pieces of turf to make the spacing more even.
Once you have all of the infill material, you can lay the artificial grass down. It’s important to be careful, because you don’t want to drag the turf over the base. Instead, you’ll need to roll it over the infill material to make sure it’s well-secured.
You may have to add drainage pipes to your artificial turf installation. Water pipes can be placed under the turf or covered at pipe level. Sprinklers can also be positioned at pipe level. Make sure the pipes aren’t near any other electrical wires.
