This fun museum offers free admission to children under two and discounted admission to children aged two to twelve. Another museum for families is the Henry B. Plant Museum, housed in the former Tampa Bay Hotel. It’s a National Historic Landmark and has furnishings from the hotel’s earliest guests. The museum also features exhibits from turn-of-the-century America. Plant was an important American transportation pioneer who helped create railroads in Florida.

Although most Tampa residents rely on their cars for transportation, the city also has public transit systems on either side of the bay. The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority offers public bus routes throughout Tampa, while the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority operates a public bus system in St. Petersburg and Clearwater. There is also the Suncoast Beach Trolley that runs between downtown Clearwater and St. Pete Beach.

The Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library System has 25 branches throughout Tampa. This system includes the John F. Germany Public Library, which is located in downtown Tampa. The Tampa library system was founded during the early twentieth century and started with the West Tampa Library, which Andrew Carnegie funded. Tampa is also part of the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative, which also includes the cities of Temple Terrace and Plant City.

Tampa is home to three major professional sports teams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFL) and the Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL).
